Edits

I've finally finished His Dark Past (happy dancing).

My question is how long to leave it before I start the edits? I'm thinking as long as possible. But at the same time i want it in shape as soon as possible.

Anyone have any fail-safe editing techniques? I'd love to hear how you go about it.

Fortunately while HDP is simmering my next story is calling. I need to have a bit of a break and refuel the well but I don't want to lose the habit of writing that the June challenge got me into.

I've decided to try my hand at a MH (with the contest in mind) but i suspect it will morph back into a Super/SSE since that's where I think I fit best. I think just approaching my idea as a MH has given me some different things to think about - a sexier opening for starters!

Anyone played outside the square? Success? Failure?

  1. Hey Becca,
I say go for it! It was only after I experimented with the paranormal genre that I really found my niche! Who knows what may come of it =)

  2. Yay, Becca! Congrats on finishing. I would leave it a week at least - if you can keep away from it for that long. :-) As to editing techniques well, I just start from the beginning again. I suppose you could re-read from a reader's point of view to see how the story hangs together, inconsistencies, and to check the pacing. Dunno if that's helpful or not. ;-)

Definitely give MH a go. That's where I definitely fit since the editors told me so. I haven't tried anything else but I'd like to at some point. Just have to figure out what!

  3. Congrats on finishing. It's quite an accomplishment. I'm also targeting SSE. Maybe we'll be self-mates...one day.

  4. For me it depends on how much time I've spent with it. If I've written the book in one go then I probably haven't read the first chapters in weeks so I would only have to leave it a couple of days. Otherwise I'm with Jackie leave it for a week if you can wait that long :)
